Why anatomy

Teach with confidence, not guesswork

Every body in your class is different. Anatomy is how you understand why.

Most teacher trainings can only give anatomy a weekend. That's rarely enough to feel sure when a student says their knee hurts in pigeon, or their low back aches after backbends.

Dr. Lauren McCollough is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a yoga teacher, so she speaks both languages. She walks you through how the body really moves, in plain language, with yoga in mind the whole way.

Watch at your own pace, rewatch anything, and keep it for good.

The course

Six modules, head to toe

Each module is a video lesson with a downloadable PDF study guide full of diagrams and breakdowns.

Module 1 40 min

Introduction to Yoga Anatomy

The language of movement: the terms, planes and directions you'll use in every class.

Module 2 1 hr

The Musculoskeletal System

Bones, joints, muscles and connective tissue, and how they work together in every pose.

Module 3 1 hr 10 min

The Spine

How the spine bends, twists and lengthens, so folds, backbends and twists feel safe and strong.

Module 4 2 hr

The Core

What the core really is, well beyond the abs, and how it supports breath and movement.

Module 5 1 hr 20 min

Upper Extremities

Shoulders, elbows and wrists, for steadier plank, chaturanga, arm balances and inversions.

Module 6 1 hr 30 min

Lower Extremities

Hips, knees, ankles and feet, the foundation of standing poses and seated work.
