Pranayama for Yoga Teachers

Pranayama is the part of the practice most teachers were handed in passing — a few rounds of nadi shodhana at the top of class, a kapalabhati when the room felt heavy. The actual system is much bigger than that, and learning it changes what you understand yoga to be.

This certification spans two days. Friday night you take the practice alongside the community in Breathe — a two-hour pranayama experience open to the public. You arrive as a student first. Saturday we open the technical manual.

Friday you experience it. Saturday you learn the system underneath-- and how to teach it.

This is a full-day immersion into the living architecture of breath: the pranic anatomy (nadis, vayus, koshas), the major techniques — nadi shodhana, ujjayi, kapalabhati, bhastrika, sitali, bhramari, viloma — the bandhas as breath companions, the contraindications you actually need to know, and the question of how to bring all of this into a 60-minute class with the depth intact. We'll work in pairs, observe, refine, and practice teaching. By the end of the day, you'll have your own pranayama practice and a framework you can use the next day.

This training includes pre-work. Video modules and required reading will be assigned upon registration. Come Saturday having done the preparation — the day is designed for people who have.

Within 30 days of completing the training, you'll record and submit a short teaching video — 2 to 10 minutes, one pranayama technique of your choice. This is your practice, your voice, your teaching. DDY may share your video on social media and will credit you as a collaborator. It's one of the ways we celebrate the teachers this community is growing.
